An Inconvenient Truth arrives on DVD November 21, 2006 from Paramount Home Entertainment.
“I’m excited about the documentary’s release on DVD,” said former Vice President Al Gore. “The DVD is a vital way for us to continue the conversation about global warming with even more Americans. As more and more people understand what’s at stake, they become a part of the solution, and share both in the challenges and opportunities presented by the climate crisis.”
The DVD will be packaged with no excess materials, so as to make the smallest environmental footprint possible. Packaging will include 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper, inks and coatings formulated to emit virtually no volatile organic compounds into the atmosphere, no inserts, no laminates and no plastic. The package was manufactured by Ivy Hill. The back of the DVD package will direct teachers to www.climatecrisis.net where a free downloadable educational guide will be available.
An Inconvenient Truth is presented in Widescreen with Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround and English 2.0 Surround and English, French and Spanish subtitles. The DVD includes the following special features:

You’ve seen An Inconvenient Truth. You’ve made changes in your life to reduce your carbon footprint. Looking for something else to do to help solve the climate crisis? How about learning how to give the presentation that is at the
heart of An Inconvenient Truth?
Starting this Fall, Al Gore and a team of renowned climate change scientists and educators will train more than 1,000 individuals to give a version of his presentation on the effects of - and solutions for - global warming, to community groups throughout the U.S.
Seven training sessions will be held in Nashville Tennessee from late September 2006 to January 2007. Each training session will be 2 days long, is free of charge (trainees are responsible for their transportation, accommodation and meals), and open to individuals of all ages, educational and technical backgrounds.
The two-day program is designed to familiarize trainees with the climate change science, equip them with new presentation skills, and develop a new dynamic online learning community for ongoing activities.

Paramount Classics announced today that “An Inconvenient Truth has grossed over $20 million dollars, making it the #4 highest grossing documentary of all time. As part of the campaign to encourage audiences to see “An Inconvenient Truth, Classics made an unprecedented pledge of 5% of all box office receipts to be donated to The Alliance for Climate Protection. With the success of the film, that donation will exceed $1 million dollars.
“We are enormously grateful for Paramount Classics’ contribution to the work of the Alliance,â€? said Larry Schweiger, President Co-Chair, Alliance for Climate Protection. “Reaching the $20 million threshold is phenomenal for a documentary film on climate change, a monumental tribute to Al Gore’s vision and tireless work on this issue, and to Paramount Classics and Participant Productions for their courage in producing this important film and bringing it to millions of Americans who are learning the truth about global warming.”
“It has been thrilling to watch this important movie become a grassroots phenomenon, said Paramount Classics President John Lesher. “People are buying group tickets to see the film and having discussion groups afterwards to talk about the lessons learned from the movie. Audiences who love the film are purchasing tickets for those who are still skeptical about the issue. And major corporations have bought tickets for their employees; it is pretty incredible.
“We are thrilled that our documentary, ‘An Inconvenient Truth,’ has reached this milestone,â€? said Jeff Skoll, Chairman and CEO of Participant Productions. “Equally important has been the incredible response to the film’s social action campaign, which has inspired people across the country to take individual action and make a difference in their own communities.”
“An Inconvenient Truth,” was produced by Participant Productions, which had previously pledged to contribute all of their profits to the Alliance, and was acquired by Paramount Classics at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. The film opened in New York and Los Angeles on May 24.
The Alliance for Climate Protection will also receive 100% of Al Gore’s proceeds from the film and the companion book “An Inconvenient Truth (Rodale), a pledge he made prior to release.
Many of you have written to us expressing interest in being trained on presenting the slideshow featured in the film.
Beginning in the fall of 2006, The Climate Project will facilitate the training of hundreds of individuals. The participants will be from across the country and from every socio-economic spectrum of our society. They will be trained to present the case for action on global warming to groups in their own communities.
Utilizing solid scientific data and user-friendly media tools, these trained individuals will become grassroots messengers to spread the word and inspire a call to action.
An Inconvenient Truth reaches out to 562 theaters this weekend. As of Wednesday, the cume box office to date is $13.6M heading into its seventh week of release.
We will also be posting international release dates in the coming week.
The Los Angeles Times reports: Wildfire Increase Linked to Climate - Higher temperatures over 34 years — rather than land-use changes — have led to more blazes, researchers say. They’re sure it’s not a fluke.
The Greenland ice sheet — two miles thick and broad enough to blanket an area the size of Mexico — shapes the world’s weather, matched in influence by only Antarctica in the Southern Hemisphere.
It glows like milky mother-of-pearl. The sheen of ice blends with drifts of cloud as if snowbanks are taking flight.
In its heartland, snow that fell a quarter of a million years ago is still preserved. Temperatures dip as low as 86 degrees below zero. Ground winds can top 200 mph. Along the ice edge, meltwater rivers thread into fraying brown ropes of glacial outwash, where migrating herds of caribou and musk ox graze.
The ice is so massive that its weight presses the bedrock of Greenland below sea level, so all-concealing that not until recently did scientists discover that Greenland actually might be three islands.
Should all of the ice sheet ever thaw, the meltwater could raise sea level 21 feet and swamp the world’s coastal cities, home to a billion people. It would cause higher tides, generate more powerful storm surges and, by altering ocean currents, drastically disrupt the global climate.
Climate experts have started to worry that the ice cap is disappearing in ways that computer models had not predicted.
By all accounts, the glaciers of Greenland are melting twice as fast as they were five years ago, even as the ice sheets of Antarctica — the world’s largest reservoir of fresh water — also are shrinking, researchers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the University of Kansas reported in February.
Al Gore will be introducing the free screening at the Los Angeles Film Festival. Get there early as the screening begins at 8pm and there will also be a concert set with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora beforehand.
